DIY FLOUR

EASY PEASY DIY "FLOUR"

YOU WILL NEED:

  • .5 - 1 CUP of desired flour  (cashew, brown rice, almond, oats)
  • HIGH-SPEED BLENDER
  • Dash of salt

DIRECTIONS

PLEASE NOTE: 1 cup should be put in the blender at a time, if you desire multiple cups of said flour, you must do this one cup at a time, unless you want butter, which is a reasonable "mistake." I keep my leftover flour in the freezer, and it could last months, but I use mine readily. Nut flour has unique textures depending on which you use, and I usually use it in cookies or raw desserts. Brown rice flour can be used for multiple things, as well as coconut flour!

  1. ADD 1 cup (or just below the blades) to a high-speed blender
  2. Pulse a few times to break up the nuts
  3. Turn on high speed for 6-12 seconds
  4. Check and shake the blender if needed, blend until "flour" or you have reached your desired consistency
  5. If you blend for too long, you will have butter

Coconut flour recipe coming soon! I just wanted to get this one up first!

Ramblings

If you have checked the prices at the market, nut and seed flour or meal like cashew, almond, flax, etc. It can be pretty expensive, so we usually opt for the cheaper flour that is not the healthiest that converts to sugar in our blood, and for some people with diabetes, this means opting out. So giving others an option when it comes to sweet tooth cravings or healthier alternatives, making your food at home is the way I choose. We have become so dependent on convenience that we have lost sight of what food really is; our nourishment.

It is essential to be cautious of the foods we put into our bodies. We do not feed soda to plants and expect them to thrive, so why would we treat our bodies any different when we know certain foods are not suitable for us? Perhaps convenience, budget, crutch foods, stress, emotions, chemical changes and hormones, thirst, the list goes on.

I am not saying only to eat only flour made from oats or nuts, because nuts are very dense in calories as they are full of fat. Around 14 almonds are 100 calories, so please be mindful of your intake as well. I wrote this recipe because I felt that sometimes we feel limited in the kitchen when we do not have specific ingredients when, in reality, you can make do with what you have and reward yourself with fresh food your body will thank you for.

Thanks for visiting!
